A new website, or just a better next step?

A practical way to decide whether your business needs a redesign, a focused landing page or a few targeted fixes.

Start with the route a customer actually takes

Before choosing colors or a template, write down one customer journey: where someone arrives, what they need to understand and how they contact you. Then try it on a phone. Can a first-time visitor identify your service, see relevant work and send a request without guessing? A beautiful homepage cannot compensate for a broken contact route.

When a targeted fix makes sense

Keep the existing site when its content is accurate, you can edit it and its structure still matches your business. A clearer service heading, relevant project images and a working inquiry form may be the right first project. Make a short list of observable issues rather than assuming every slow month is caused by the website.

When a landing page is the better project

A focused page is useful when you are presenting one service to one audience. For example, a photographer contacting local restaurants can share a page about food photography rather than sending everyone to a broad portfolio. Include relevant images, what a shoot involves, what affects the quote and one clear way to ask about availability. That example describes an approach, not a promised result.

When rebuilding becomes reasonable

Consider a rebuild when navigation no longer reflects the business, the editing system blocks essential changes or the mobile experience needs changes throughout. First inventory useful existing pages and their URLs. Plan redirects for any addresses that change, preserve content that still helps customers and test the new site before replacing the old one.

Write a brief that can be priced

List your main service, the pages you need, the material you already have and the action each page should support. Ask the proposal to separate copy, photography, development, integrations and maintenance. Agree on what counts as finished: not just an approved screenshot, but a usable mobile page and a tested inquiry route. Start with the smallest project that addresses the problem you can actually verify.
